The Violet Heathen and I STILL wanted a drink, and while we were now full, our patience was rewarded around the corner. Stout Irish Pub was as much a tavern as one could hope for. We pulled off our boots, wet from the snow and muck of the day, and set them by crackling hearth to dry. We should have eaten here, but alas. Instead, we warmed ourselves by the fire and enjoyed two stouts among a dozen select styles and brands, among a drink menu several pages long hosting a wide variety. Sweet oatmeal, raspberry, chocolate, and other flavours I couldn’t pull out. The Heathen was much better equipped to enjoy the subtle twists of our drinks, whereas anything that’s close to a Guinness I find enjoyable. We passed the rest of the afternoon in warmth and drink, enjoying the wind whistling outside as we chatted within the mostly empty tavern. I look forward to returning, trying a few more new drinks, and seeing what their kitchen has to offer.
