Touted as one of the great cafes in a city of coffee, I find myself preferring Revolver’s décor and location over its offerings. My five dollars got me one of the smallest, thinnest cappuccinos of my life. Whether there’s expertise of quality beans at play, I couldn’t tell you. There were certainly an elegant array of individual boilers stretched along the serving counter.

I fought for space at a narrow counter looking down on the street, sitting with my coat over my knees. The long table behind me was full, and all the booths in the high-ceilinged first room were taken. Perhaps this is my fault for coming late in the day, around 2pm, but my sweet tooth also went unanswered: I refused the lone, dry-looking brownie square and the dish of blueberry coffee cake. Neither appealed.

Below and adjacent to Revolver, however, are three shops with wonderful focus: kink, corsets, fetish and steampunk ware, gothic chic, and similar pursuits available by the grace of Deadly Couture. These were fun, different, interesting, and worth your attention.

For my $5, Revolver does not.
